How to play Ludo

Read the aim of Ludo, then make your first move. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Review a difficult moment

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
